Estamos orgullosos de anunciar que el largometraje en el que ha trabajado una de nuestras socias, Lisa Berger, Queen of Chess, se estrena en Netflix el viernes 6 de febrero, tras su premiere mundial en el Festival de Sundance el pasado mes de enero. El documental retrata a la prodigio húngara Judit Polgár, quien se enfrentó al campeón Garry Kasparov y a la fuerte influencia de su padre, rompiendo barreras de género hasta convertirse en la jugadora más importante de la historia. La película está dirigida por Rory Kennedy y producida por Moxie Films.
La directora del documental, con base en Los Ángeles, contactó con Lisa para obtener acceso y negociar los derechos de uso de material de archivo de RTVE, Canal Sur, un creador de YouTube y otras fuentes, con el fin de documentar los torneos en los que Polgár compitió en España durante la década de 1990.
We’re pleased to announce that the feature film one of our members, Lisa Berger, worked on in Spain, “Queen of Chess” will premiere on Netflix on Feb. 6th after being featured at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The documentary features “Hungarian prodigy Judit Polgár, who challenges champion Garry Kasparov and her controlling father, breaking gender barriers to become the greatest female player ever and one of history’s finest” directed by Rory Kennedy and produced by Moxie Films.
As often happens, the main archive producer, based in Los Angeles, realized she couldn’t handle Spanish archives on her own, so she hired a local to access and negotiate rights to photos and footage from RTVE, Canal Sur, a Youtuber and other sources in Spain to document the tournaments Polgár competed in here, in the 1990s.
